 Notes:

Dear Morningside Family,

February is here and this month is known best as the time we celebrate love. This month affords us the opportunity to share with people that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16)”. This verse is the most familiar among people. You see it written on signs at sporting events and highway billboards. I am glad that it is familiar, but sometimes I wonder if it is taken for granted in our society. John 3:16 is the first Bible verse most people learn. You can share Christ with a lost person simply by using this one verse. As believers on Christ, we must be sure to cherish this verse as well as the entire Bible. We must not take for granted God’s Word. It is the perfect treasured Word of God. Jesus taught that God’s Word is truth (John 17:17). He also taught that “If we abide in His Word, we are His disciples indeed. And we shall know the truth, and the truth shall make us free (John 8:31-32)”. So, during this month, may we look for simple ways to share the life- changing Gospel of God’s love with a world that is confused about what real love means. Do you know someone that needs to know that God loves them? Probably, I am sure we all do. Reach out to them with the love of Christ. At Morningside, we have a special opportunity to celebrate God’s love. On Friday, February 10, we will have a sweetheart banquet. For $10 a person, you can enjoy a fine meal and good fellowship while you thank God for His love for us. Remember that “We love Him because He first loved us (I John 4:19)”. I count it a privilege and honor to serve as your pastor.

In Christ,

Pastor Dale Clayton

 Worship:

It seems like we were just celebrating the New Year, and now here it is the end of January already. Wonder why time seems to go flying by faster and faster? It certainly couldn't be because I'm getting old!!

I give God all glory for the wonderful spirit of revival that we are experiencing here at Morningside in our worship services. I haven't felt such an atmosphere of enthusiasm and excitement in a long time, and how refreshing it is! I'm thankful that the Lord gives us the opportunity to join with Him in what He's doing, but we know that all the praise belongs to Him, not us. Thank you, Morningside family, for your active participation in our worship services. Not only does it bless God when His children take an active part in worship, it also helps provide an inviting atmosphere for visitors and those who are struggling and need encouragement. Furthermore, according to Pastor Dale, it makes his job a lot easier when our hearts have been prepared by a time of sincere worship.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!

  Men's Brotherhood Ministries
Breakfast

I am inviting all men and young adult men of the church to be a part of the Men's Brotherhood Ministries Breakfast. We had 19 in attendants at our meeting last month and the fellowship breakfast was great. We had plenty of groceries for everybody and had good fellowship.
When:   Saturday, February 18, 2012
Where:   Fellowship Hall
Time:   8:00 am

First I would like to thank Jay Vance for filling in for me as moderator at last month's meeting. Thanks Jay.

After the breakfast Phil Clark gave a devotional.  Then we accepted prayer requests and prayed. The guest speaker was Bill Jewett on the love of flying and his introduction to hot air balloon flying. Due to the amount of time used there was no time left for the business meeting and the meeting was adjourned by Jay Vance.

Last year we found some structure and identified some kind of meaning and purpose for the Brotherhood. We identified some ministries that we as a men's group had no idea we were involved in.

We gave the Crossroads Mission a greater purpose by taking it on as a ministry under the Brotherhood, instead of "oh" by the way tomorrow is Crossroads Mission night. We brought back Royal Ambassadors (RA's) as a mission outreach which started the 11th of January. The first meeting they had 7 boys and the second meeting, 10 boys. Now that is what I’m talking about. That's going in the right direction!

What causes you stress? Carefully examine whether you are taking matters into your own hands or releasing the circumstance to Almighty God. Listen to Psalm 37:7, which says, "Rest in the Load and wait patiently for Him." Seek His way and His timing. Anything else can be destructive.

Grace to you all,
Gary Holbrook

The AZ State Women’s Retreat is coming up April 13 – 15, and we hope to take a large group. Deadline for registration with our church is Sunday, March 11, 2012. Please fill out a registration form and drop it off in the church office along with a $35.00 deposit if you would like to attend. Registration is $135. You can still register after the deadline for $145, however, space is limited. We’re looking forward to a great time of fellowship and growing together at a beautiful camp just outside of Williams, AZ. There will be scholarships available, so please don’t let the cost keep you from going. That brings up the next news item:

Rummage Sale February 25: WOW is having a rummage sale to raise funds for our retreat. Now is the time to clean out your closets and garage and bring it all to church for our sale. You can drop off items in the Lazarus classroom beginning Sunday evening, 2/19/12. We’ll even pick items up from your home if you call me (Katie) at 246-3817. The sale starts at 7 a.m. Saturday morning, and everyone is invited to come by, say hi, and shop!

FEBRUARY 2012

Sunday School is continuing to show significant growth over last year’s statistics. For this, we praise our gracious God, who provides so abundantly.

I hope you are planning to attend the SS Fellowship/Training time Sunday, February 12 at 5:00pm, if you are involved in any leadership position of Sunday School. It is going to be a time of sharing, revealing the results of the Children’s Development Team, discussing ways to retain visitors, the need for at least two new adult classes, and enjoying some snacks!

We want to remind everyone that Promotion Sunday is June 3. This will affect the class your child attends during VBS. They will go to the class for the grade they will begin in the fall semester.

Speaking of VBS, I remind you that this year, ours will be June 17-22. Put it on your calendar! If you are willing to volunteer to help in some way, contact Beverly Mitchell, the director. Everyone can definitely pray for God to lead and guide in the planning.

As I shared in December’s Newsletter, Sunday School is an evolving program. I pray you are ready to move with me into assisting more of Morningside’s family to grow in Biblical knowledge which results in godly lifestyles.

Blessings,

Georgia Tyson
