Seven Realities of Experiencing God from "EXPERIENCING GOD"
by Henry Blackaby |
| |
| God's Work |
God is always at work around you. |
| |
| Relationship |
God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal. |
| |
| Invitation |
God invites you to become involved with Him in His work. |
| |
| God Speaks |
God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways. |
| |
| Crisis of Belief |
God's invitation for you to work with Him always leads you to a crisis of belief that requires faith and action. |
| |
| Adjust |
You must make major adjustments in your life to join God in what He is doing. |
| |
| Obey and Experience |
You come to know Him by experience as you obey Him, and He accomplishes His work through you. |

God, grant me the Serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace,
Taking, as He did, the sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

LETTING GO
| To "let go." does not mean to stop caring, |
| |
it means I can't do it for someone else. |
| To "let go" is not to cut myself off, |
| |
it's the realization I can't control another. |
| To "let go" is not to enable, |
| |
but to allow learning from natural consequences. |
| To "let go" Is to admit powerlessness, |
| |
which means the outcome is not in my hands. |
| To "let go" Is not to try to change or blame another, |
| |
it's to make the most of myself. |
| To "let go" is not to care for, |
| |
but to care about. |
| To "let go" Is not to fix, |
| |
but to be supportive. |
| To "let go" Is not to judge, |
| |
but to allow another to be a human being. |
| To "let go" Is not to be in the middle of arranging all the outcomes, |
| |
but to allow others to affect their own destinies. |
| To "let go" Is not to be protective, |
| |
it's to permit another to face reality. |
| To "let go" Is not to deny, |
| |
but to accept. |
| To "let go" Is not to nag, scold or argue, |
| |
but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them. |
| To "let go" Is not to adjust everything to my desires |
| |
but to take each day as it comes, and cherish myself in it. |
| To "let go" is not to regret the past, |
| |
but to grow and live for the future. |
| To "let go" is to fear less and love more. |

Our Journey in Christ
| Faith is not just believing facts about Jesus. |
| |
"You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder." (James 2:19) |
| Faith is trusting in Jesus. |
| |
It's like taking a trip on an airplane. You will never make the trip until you trust the plane enough to board it. |
| Three important questions: |
| |
Does what you have been reading make sense to you?
Is there any reason you would not be willing to receive God's gift of eternal life?
Are you willing to place your faith in Jesus right now and turn from your sin?
The Bible says, "For, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' "
(Romans 10: 13) |
| You need to ask the Lord Jesus to save you. |
| |
Read this prayer and see if it says what you want to say to God. |
| |
| Dear God, I know that Jesus is Your Son, and that He died on the cross and was raised from the dead-I know I have sinned and need forgiveness. I am willing to turn from my sins and receive Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen. |
| |
Call on the Lord in repentance and faith, using these or similar words of your own; and Jesus will become your savior and Lord.
Welcome to the family of God. If you sincerely prayed this prayer, you have just made the most important decision of your life. You can be sure you are saved and have eternal life.
| As you begin your new journey. |
| |
It is important to realize that Jesus wants to do more then just reside in your life. He wants to be Lord of your life.
The Bible says, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified,
and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10)
| Confessing Jesus as Lord means trusting Him to direct our lives. |
| |
Trusting Jesus to direct our lives is like driving down the highway with another person. As long as you are driving, you are in charge. If you realize you don't know the way, but the other person does, you might say, "You take the wheel and drive." Then the other person is in charge and the two of you take the route he or she chooses. |
| As evidence of confessing Jesus as Lord, you will want to identify with Him. |
| |
The New Testament way of identification is to confess Jesus publicly (Matthew 10:32-33) and to follow
Him in baptism and church membership (Acts 2:41) |
| Your Assurance ... |
| |
You know you have eternal live because: God keeps His promises.
You repented of your sin (Acts 3:19)
You placed your faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9)
God heard your prayer.
"For, 'Every one who calls on the name of the
Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13)
God recorded your commitment. "Rejoice that you names are written in heaven." (Luke 10:20) |
| You need to grow as a Christian. |
| |
The Bible calls new Christians "babes in Christ"
(1 Corinthians 3:1) Without certain essentials,
babies will not develop normally.
The church is to the new Christian what the home
and family are to a baby.
You identify with your new family by confessing Jesus publicly and by experiencing believer's baptism. "Those who accepted his message were baptized,
and about three thousand were added to their number that day." (Acts 2:4)
Attend church Sunday and share with the pastor that you want to be baptized and become a member of the church. |
| Praying is to spiritual life what breathing is to physical life. |
| |
Breathing must be regular and continuous. The Bible says, "Pray continually"
( I Thessalonians 5:17)
Learn to be specific in your praying, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9) |
| God's word is to a new Christian what good food is to a baby. |
| |
Good food is a daily requirement for proper growth. "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation." (1 Peter 2:2)
My best time for daily prayer and Bible reading is morning, noon and night. |
| Learning to witness is to a new Christian what learning to talk is to a baby. |
| |
Christ commands us to share the good news with others. "You will be my witnesses." (Acts 1:8)
Tell someone you know will be happy to learn about your decision for Christ.
Tell someone who needs to receive Christ about your decision. |
| Tips for the new believer |
| |
There is an enemy. Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal and to kill and destroy." (John 10:10) Satan could not stop you from receiving Christ, so now he will try to keep you from becoming a happy, effective follower of Christ. Expect his opposition.
But you have a friend. "There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." (Proverbs 18:24) Jesus said' "Surly I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)
With Christ you are a winner! "The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." (1 John 4:4) |
| |

Hebrews 13:5 |
| |
A shipwreck survivor built a hut of drift wood. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him.
One day, upon returning from scavenge for food, he found his hut burning. The smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened, he had lost every thing. And in grief asked God why this had happened to him.
The next morning he heard the sound of a ship coming to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man. The rescuers replied "We saw your smoke signal."
When we are discouraged and don't feel that things are going right, that may be our smoke signal to God's grace. We need to remember that God is at work in our lives even when there is pain and suffering.

from a Recovery Publications Book amended according as I understand walking with the Lord.
A guide to help us identify and deal with issues that are interfering with our spiritual pilgrimage.
Step I
I admit that I am powerless over the effect of my (sin) separation from God and that my life has become unmanageable.
I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
Romans 7:18
Step 2
I have come to believe that only God can bring me to wholeness.
For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Philippians 2:13
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 |
Step 3
I continue making the decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God. I put my life in His fortress. (And want to get to know Him better.)
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1
But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. Psalm 59:16
I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm 91:2 |
Step 4
| I am searching and making fearless moral inventory of myself. (Is what I am doing pleasing to the Lord? Am I growing in integrity? Are my motives pure?) |
Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. Lamentations 3:40
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Psalm 139:23
Step 5
I am admitting to God, to myself, and to another human being the exact nature of of my wrongs.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16a
Step 6
I am entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:10
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 51:9-11
Step 7
I humbly ask Him to remove my shortcomings.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
[Jesus] who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. Titus 2:14
Step 8
Make a list of all persons I have harmed (or that I
perceived to have harmed me) and become willing to make amends to them all.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Luke 6:31
[He] must confess the sin he has committed. He must make full restitution for his wrong, add one fifth to it and give it all to the person he has wronged. Numbers 5:7
Step 9
Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the alter and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the alter. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
Matthew 5:23-24
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD "— and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah Psalm 32:5
Step 10
I continue to take personal inventory and, when I am wrong, promptly admitted it. The sooner we confess the less interruption of the flow of our relationship with God.
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall.
1 Corinthians 10:12
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16b
Step 11
I am seeking through prayer and meditation to improve conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for me and the power to carry that out.
Let the Word of God dwell in you richly.
Colossians 3:16a
Step 12
Having had a spiritual awakening, and as the result of these steps, I'm working to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all my life.
Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you may be tempted. Galations 6:1
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:6
And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, Colossians 1:10
If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
2 Timothy 2:21
[He will] equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:21
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
