Ken's Notes

Dear Church Family:

“Yet I call this to mind, and therefore I have hope:
Because of the LORD’S faithful love we do not perish,
For His mercies never end. They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness!"
  Lamentations 3:21-23 HCSB

Jeremiah stops contemplating his misery and begins to focus on God’s mercy. He still experienced pain and sorrow, but it was his focus on God’s mercy and faithfulness that gave him hope. God is faithful and doesn’t change. This aspect of God’s character is so important to the follower of Christ: God’s unchanging nature is the basis for everything we believe about Him.

If God could change then His promises would be invalid, and He would be untrustworthy. I need the assurance that God is unchanging and faithful so I can know Him as God and place my total trust in Him.

My circumstances change, and so do my feelings about them. God is always faithful, good, loving, merciful, and kind. He never changes!

As we continue to move forward, we must have that resolved in our mind: God is faithful and unchanging. I began this letter with excerpts from the devotion I shared with our staff in our first staff
meeting this morning (Wed. 2/24).

I would like to take the opportunity to bring you up to date with what is happening at Morningside during this time of transition. We are moving forward, and your Church Council continues to provide
leadership during this time. I want to share with the results from our last meeting. Don Vickers will be preaching February 28 & March 14. I will be preaching March 7, 21 & April 4. Our Celebration Choir will be presenting their Easter Musical, “Arise My Love” on Palm Sunday Morning, March 28.

February 2010
Dear Church Family:

These have been difficult days for Morningside Baptist Church. Losing a pastor is never easy, and I know there are many in our fellowship that are hurting during this time. Some are asking, “What now?” Tuesday evening the Deacons met and I wanted to share the outcome of that meeting time.

First, the Deacons have committed themselves to serve the church. They desire not to become a “Deacon Board”, or seek control of the church. Rather, they want to be servant leaders for Morningside. The church will move forward with the leadership of the Church Council. We will have our next Church Council meeting on Sunday February 7th at 4:00 pm in the Conference Room.

Second, they have asked Don Vickers, the Director of Missions for Yuma Southern Baptist Association, to serve as a short term interim. He will help by preaching on Sunday mornings, working with the Church Council, and coming alongside me during these days. He will help us in this capacity as the Deacons pray about and seek an Intentional Interim Pastor for Morningside Baptist Church.

Third, I am here to serve you. I never imagined that we would be facing all that we are when God brought me here. I believe God brought me here for a purpose, and I will continue to serve you in leading out in Worship and Discipleship. I have been asked to deliver the message this Sunday, January 31st and I am looking forward to Worshipping with my church family and sharing His Word with you.

I am here for you. Please feel free to contact me at (928) 246-7077 (Cell), or at the church office.

It is a joy to serve you, and I am grateful God has allowed us to be a part of the body of Christ at Morningside Baptist!

  Happy New Year

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your Word. I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You.”
Psalm 119:9,11 NIV

Well here we are at the beginning of a New Year. Boy, time really flies by. This is the time when we make our annual New Years Resolutions. And how many times have those resolutions gone by the wayside? For me probably more than I care to think about.

As we begin a New Year, let’s make a Resolution to live according to the Word of God.

Dr. Chuck Swindoll in his devotional book; “The Finishing Touch” shares four thoughts from Psalm 119:1-16 that were a blessing to me and I want to pass them on to you.

1. Seek the Lord on a regular basis (v. 10) Pursue Him daily. Keep Him involved in the every day activities of our lives. Include Him in our decisions, plans.

2. Treasure His truth in your heart (v. 11) Commit verses of Scripture to memory. A heart full of treasure leaves little room for trash.

3. Openly tell others of Him (v. 13) Something wonderful happens when we open our own lips and speak to others about how our God has changed our lives.

4. Rejoice and delight in God’s workings (v. 14,16) smile more. Let your delight shine. Laughter has numerous therapeutic benefits.

5. Give God your full respect (v. 15-16) Don’t hold back. Trust completely. Make this the year you dare to live by faith. When uncertain, trust Him.

Again, I trust these thoughts from Dr. Swindoll will be a blessing to you as they were to me.

Thank you for the many ways you have expressed your love and appreciation to me and my family this Christmas Season. Lori, Becca, Anna, Allie & I wish you and your family a Happy New Year!

Bro. Ken Hedstrom
